Like Categories and Locations, setting up Custom Fields will also assist with creating different experiences and with reporting, but in an even more unique way!

Custom Fields allow for values to be included that are unique to each participant (ex. salary ID, usernames, passwords, pronouns, etc).

For example, the ability to enter the Employee ID number Or even to add in their future work email (to have it switch to this on day one using an Update Value Module!).

To add a new Custom Field

Step 1: Click on Settings in the top right of Enboarder

Step 2: Click on the General setup and then click on Custom Fields

Step 3: Click the + Add New button on the left;

Step 4: Enter the details for that Custom Field in the slide-out panel on the right. You'll need to enter a Custom Field Name, choose a Field Type, and finally if that Custom Field will be required to launch a Workflow or not.

How to pick a Field Type

There are 6 different Field Types for Custom Fields.

For Date, Number and Time, they will only allow you to enter those chosen fields.

For Picklist, you provide what is essentially a list of options from which you can pick one for each launched Workflow.

Short and Long Text are easily the most used Field Types. This is because you can enter almost any type of text into these fields, and are often great for use with your integration (as we can take almost any incoming field from your other system into a Text field). The only difference between them is that Short Text contains all text that you input onto a single line, with no formatting, whereas Long Text allows you to input blocks of text that can be used along the journey (think specific policy blocks unique to that participant, etc)

There is a multitude of options with Custom Fields. You will have the option to enable these when you create a new Workflow, or you can edit an existing Workflow to enable your Custom Fields on that specific experience.

To enable the Custom fields you'll need to add the Custom Field to the Workflow that you require this information to be captured for. Check out the gif below to see how you can do this ⬇️ (or click HERE to read the full article).

Got questions? 🧐 click the '?' button to start speaking with the team at the top right of any Enboarder page!

Note: Once you create and have started using a Custom Field - you cannot change the Field Type. You'd need to create a new Custom Field if you needed to update this down the line.
